Lake Royale and the Outer Banks

This was our trip to Lake Royale and the Outer Banks, North Carolina, in the midst of Perthes Disease; our first big trip in almost 2 years!  We packed Jack's crutches and wheelchair but never even took them out of the car (hooray!)  It was a bit difficult at first for Jack to 'run' on the beach in the Outer Banks.  His leg tired very quickly.  But by the end of the week, he was doing fine.  Jack's grandparents had to reserve the house way back in November so we had no idea if we were even going to be able to make it.  And looking at him in that giant body cast in the spring, and then seeing how weak he was when he got out, I didn't think we'd get there.  But in early June when the doctor told us to get him off the crutches and start easing him back into childhood, he just took off! 

Packing and Chowder

After a hard morning of packing for our upcoming trip to North Carolina, we ran out to Oakland Beach in Warwick following a thunderstorm.  We had a cup of chowda and some cheese fries overlooking the water, and then sat on the jetty.  I'm still loving how we can just pick up and go, without having to worry about if things are handicap accessible.  It's amazing what we used to take for granted.

Lake Royale

We arrived in Lake Royale yesterday in just under 13 hours. The kids did great, only 2 small fights but I threatened salads for lunch and that kept them in line. It's beautiful here - the lake feels like bath water. It's hot, though - supposed to be 110 today!

A much needed storm rolled in so Jack took a 'shower' outside!

Outer Banks

We are now in the Outer Banks with dad's family - 9 kids and 7 adults! We went hunting for ghost crabs by moonlight last night and are now on the beach. Jack is doing GREAT - able to run on the beach and boogie board. And just think, 3 months ago he couldn't even walk.
